The Fire Marshal's Office is responsible for plan reviews, fire code compliance inspections, special events reviews, and fire investigations for the District to minimize the loss of life and property resulting from fire. The Fire Marshal's Office monitors trends and identifies focus areas where code enforcement can further reduce the loss of life and property. This is done through:
- Comprehensive plan reviews, inspections and functional testing for new developments, new building construction, interior remodels and fire & life-safety systems to ensure that designs meet the requirements of adopted codes and standards.
- Fire & life safety compliance inspections on an annual, biennial, or triennial rotation based on the risk of individual occupancies to gain voluntary code compliance with enforcement being the last resort when compliance cannot be gained voluntarily.
- Fire Investigations utilizing scientific methods to investigate the origin and cause fires to identify causal factors and develop countermeasures to prevent future occurrences of fire.
